What are your favorite sources for containers?

Of course all the normal places – FSS (Floral Supply Syndicate), Accent Decor, Jamali Garden, etc. Also, I like to scour the antique stores and thrift stores, I’ll buy some old stuff and paint it to the color that I desire. And, if it is anything made out of wood I ask my husband to build it.

Oh that’s a long story 🙂 I have mainly two types of containers, new ones and real vintage ones. I get the vintage ones from a large Emmaüs center located in Picardy (Emmaüs is a Christian organization that gathers everything old that people do not want to keep, repair it and sell it, not sure they are really well represented in the US, but in Europe they are huge) or at small flea markets (there are many of them in summer in all the villages in my area). As for the new ones, I usually search first on the internet as most of my supplier have online shops. Most of them have showrooms in Paris near the flower market as well, and I usually go on site to buy them. As for brands, in terms of very contemporary designs, I am deeply in love with Serax and ComingB.

For mass produced vessels, my main go-to is Accent Decor.

I love Jamali Garden in NYC​, they have such a great variety of styles of vases, bowls, candleholders, lanterns, etc.. I use Accent Décor for interesting votive holders as well as rustic containers (wooden, clay, cement, etc.). I like Campo De Fiori in Massachusetts for Garden Style containers. Vasesource in NY is a great resource for glassware.  I also frequent Goodwill and other second hand shops for vintage bottles and candlesticks.

Each year I try to clear out some of my old containers and buy new ones. We probably change around 10-20% each year. I hold a clearance sale at my studio once a year and sell to other florists or the general public. My go to place for glassware, stoneware and silverware has always been C.Best at New Covent Garden Market in London. Driving a van there and filling it with amazing product is always an expensive but fulfilling trip! Once we start to hire out the ideas along with our wedding flowers I can see my investment paying off.

I also customize items so that they are unique. This year I have taken a cream coloured relatively cheap metal candelabra and sprayed it brown and then covered it with branches to create a woodland effect. I have bought candle holders from Ikea and sprayed them with a hammered metal effect. Quite recently I have covered cylinder vases in textured wallpaper to create an original finish for events.

I rarely buy from a supplier. I buy random vessels from antique stores or fairs for pieces with more charm.
